CE mark certification for protective gloves
Step E sign: The directive divides PPE into three categories according to the level of risk the product is intended to protect against: Type I PPE protects against only mild risks, such as gardening gloves.
Category II PPE protection with moderate risk, such as mechanical gloves. Category III PPE protects against severe risks, such as firefighting gloves. All categories of PPE are tested against the appropriate criteria to demonstrate compliance with the PPE directive.
Category II and III PPE products are also certified by designated agencies. Protective gloves shall be tested in accordance with standard EN420 protective gloves general requirements and test methods. In addition, depending on the end-use of gloves, other standards shall be applied, such as gloves for mechanical risks, and gloves for protection against mechanical risks to EN388 shall also be complied with.
Tests carried out in accordance with the above standards also include assessments of protective performance as well as durability and user comfort. UTT International Certification Authority can provide the above test services. The number of samples required for testing depends on the nature of the product, but in general, testing under the above two criteria requires about 11 additional pairs of large products and one pair per size.
European standards for protective gloves include:
EN374 - chemical and microbial protective gloves
EN388 - mechanical protective gloves
EN407 - Heat-proof (heat and/or fire) gloves
EN420 -- General requirements and test methods for protective gloves
EN421 - Protective gloves for ionizing radiation and radioactive contamination
EN511 - antifreeze gloves
