New EU regulations
A few days ago, the Official Journal of the European Union officially released Regulation (EU) 2018/725, amending Annex II of Toy Safety Directive 2009/48 / EC regarding the migration limit of hexavalent chromium in toys intended for children under 14 years of age. The new regulations have become stricter, and toy export companies should respond in a timely manner, understand relevant laws and regulations, and reduce the risk of recalls.
It is reported that the migration limit of hexavalent chromium in the children's toy safety directive 2009/48 / EC revised by the EU will be implemented on November 18, 2019, and the migration limit of hexavalent chromium in scrapable toy materials will be reduced to 0.053 mg / kg, the limits of other toy materials remain unchanged.
The new EU regulations adjust the migration limit of hexavalent chromium in dry, fragile, powdered or soft toy materials; 0.02 mg / kg; the migration limit of hexavalent chromium in liquid or viscous toy materials is 0.005 mg / kg ; The migration limit of hexavalent chromium in scrapable toy materials is 0.053 mg / kg.
In daily life scenes, children ’s activities will be exposed to hexavalent chromium in addition to toys. Therefore, when calculating the limit of hexavalent chromium, a certain percentage of TDI should be used as a basis. According to scientific data analysis, the largest contribution of toys to the daily intake of hexavalent chromium is 10%.
The introduction of the new regulations will bring more stringent market supervision. For this reason, toy manufacturers and export foreign trade companies should cooperate with children's toy raw material suppliers to communicate and compare raw materials and production processes based on the product information of each manufacturer. Systematic research, as well as avoiding materials and production processes containing heavy metals in the production of children's toys.
